How to Play
Use your mouse or touchpad to click and match two identical tiles Clear the board by connecting matching tiles with a path that has no more than two turns
Description
Undead Mahjong serves up that familiar tile-matching challenge, but with a twist—everything’s drenched in Halloween spirit. The board gets covered in ghosts, skeletons, pumpkins; you know the drill if you’ve tried any seasonal Mahjong spin-offs. There’s a slight urge to rush since some backgrounds pulse with fog or flicker as if you’re playing inside an old haunted house. Not every tile is easy to spot among the cobweb motifs and darker corners, so your eyes get a bit of a workout.
You just match identical pairs to clear them off—classic rules—but it’s more than going through the motions because each level shuffles things just enough. Occasionally, I found myself double-checking that last tile since the art sometimes makes shapes blend together. Bit tricky at times, actually.
If you like simple matching games but crave atmosphere (or even just want an October evening distraction), this fits nicely. There’s not much story or narrative—it keeps things quick and direct—but honestly, that works here. Kids might like it for the monsters and cartoonish touches; adults might appreciate how it doesn’t demand total focus unless you’re chasing high scores.
It surprised me how quickly I got pulled into “just one more round.” That part really matters, really.
Editor's View
I jumped into Undead Mahjong mostly for its look—the promise of Halloween creatures on every tile was too tempting to pass up. At first glance it delivers: everything’s coated in that moody orange-and-black palette and little details like bat wings or eerie eyes pop out as you play.
But once I started matching tiles, I noticed it leans heavily on standard Mahjong mechanics without shaking up the formula much beyond the visuals. That said, there were moments when the background would shift or glow faintly and I'd stop to admire how well it fit the theme. It’s interesting—they absolutely nailed atmosphere here.
The game doesn’t punish mistakes harshly so even if you get stuck searching for a pair in all those dark corners (it happens), restarting feels painless enough. My only real gripe: after several levels the novelty faded just a bit—the puzzles don’t ramp up much in complexity unless you’re determined to beat your own score over and over again.
Still, on a cool night when you want something light? It does exactly what it sets out to do.
